Abstract

A device for removing ticks from humans and animals comprises a base part (1) having two openings (2a, 2b) at its tip and (1a) leading to a central duct (3). Disposed within the duct (3) is a rod (4) having a loop of pref. nylon attached to its tip end, the other end projecting beyond the base part (1) to form a pushbutton (4a). A helical spring (5) is tensioned between a spring stop (4b) on the rod (4) and the base of the end part (1a), and when compressed by pushing the button (4a) allows the nylon loop (6) to be ejected from the interior of the base part. By placing the loop (6) around the tick and releasing the push-button (4a) the loop is drawn around the tick, thereby holding it fast without injuring it. The device and loop are then rotated one turn in either direction, causing the tick to release its grip within three seconds. It can then be removed and rendered harmless without danger of infection.
