Abstract

The torque control identifies when the throttle is lifted and the engine braking effect is used. The engine torque is progressively reduced to prevent sudden torque shocks until the engine braking operates with no fuel flow. At the end of the engine braking sequence the system identifies the need for engine torque and applies said torque in a progressive manner, again to minimise torque shocks. The torque correction is by variation of the timing and the control of the fuel injection. The fuel injection correction can be applied to individual cylinders to progressively change the engine torque. Separate control programs are used for decreasing and increasing the engine torque. The start- and finish of the engine braking sequence is controlled w.r.t. a timed program.
