Abstract

The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for extending a preform (2) of plastic material in the axial direction of the preform. A first retainer device (11) and a second retainer device (12) are provided for fixedly retaining both ends (20, 32) of the preform and, under displacement from one another, to extend the preform. An energy-emitting device (40) forms, between itself and the preform, a gap (62) and is disposed to supply energy to a portion (35) defined in the axial direction of the preform, by means of radiation which passes over the gap. According to the method, a controlled extension of the preform takes place in that the tensile forces which are formed in the material of the preform only extend the material in the defined portion (35).
