Abstract

An assembly in a chair having a seat member (1) and a back member (2), wherein the seat member (1) at the front edge has a flexible web-shaped portion (6) comprising a number of transversely extending stiffening elements (7, 12) supported by supporting components (8) which are displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the seat member (1). The stiffening elements (7, 12) are displaceably mounted on the supporting components (8), and the supporting components consist of a number of stirrup elements each having a rearward, straight portion (9) which is displaceably mounted in holding means (11) on or in the seat member (1), and a forward, downwardly curved stirrup portion (10). The stiffening elements (7, 12) and the web-shaped portion (6) are situated on the curved stirrup portions (10) when the stirrup elements (8) are pushed into the seat member (1), and are gradually displaced onto the straight portions (9) when displacing the stirrup elements (8) out from the seat member (1), for increasing the seat depth. <IMAGE>
