Abstract
In normal superfinishing based on an adjustable tool (5) and a rotating workpiece (1), a linear high-frequency reciprocating movement (6) extending parallel to the geometric axis (4) of the workpiece or of the journal is superimposed upon the rotational movement (3) of the latter. According to the invention, a linear low-frequency reciprocating movement (7) preferably extending over the entire length of the journal or the length of the rolling element is then superimposed upon this linear high-frequency reciprocating movement (6). This means that the treatment can be more intensive, e.g. at the ends of the journal or the like, thereby reducing the normal diameter found there in superfinishing. However, it is also conceivable to produce any other contour differing from a mathematically straight line. The process may also be applied to the formation of a curved generating line. Fig. 1b (not shown). The process is suitable for rolling elements, bearing journals and bearing races. <IMAGE>
