Abstract

A method of improving the purification efficiency of biological aerated ponds for purification of waste water wherein a carrier material for the growth of a microbiological film is arranged in the pond and the waste water is flown in good contact with the main portion of the surface of the carrier material. The carrier material provides a surface exposed to the waste water in the aerated pond of at least 1m2/m3 and is shaped such that the water flow generates a movement of the surfaces of the carrier material in relation to each other.
