Abstract

Process comprises passing a suspension of pulp, pref. comprising greater than 8% cellulose-contg. fibrous material, into a bleaching lime, pref. comprising at least one bleaching vessel, wherein the pulp is treated with at least one acid in order to lower the pH to a value less than 7, and with a complexing agent and then bleaching in at least one step with hydrogen peroxide or a corresp. amt. of other peroxide added in an amt. greater than 5kg BDMT so that the brightness of the pulp is 75 (greater than 80)%. The bleaching step takes place at high temp. and at a pressure greater than 2 bar, in bleaching vessel having a cross-section surface area greater than 3 m2, such that the area of the exposed internal metal surface opposite the vessel is less than 4 Vm3, whereby V represents the volume in m3.
