Abstract

The invention relates to a catalyst carrier for gas-purifying catalytic units, wherein the carrier comprises a metal fabric that has been loosely knitted or woven from high-temperature metal wire. The metal wire is comprised of an alloy which can be given a ragged surface, at least when viewed microscopically, by heat-treatment without mechanically working said surface in an earlier stage of manufacture. A suitable alloy is an iron-chromium alloy having an aluminium content of 400-600 %, preferably about 500 %, and a rare earth metal content of 0.015-0.020 %. The catalyst carrier provides a catalytic unit having effectively adhered catalyst layers.
