Abstract

CELLULAR RADIO SYSTEM WITH HOPPING A base station (20, 21, 22) of a cellular communications system is provided having a serial interface (40) for direct connection over a time divided serial bus (23) to a base station controller (30). Traffic data is received from the base station controller through the serial interface. A channel coder (31) codes the traffic data and selectively outputs it onto the serial bus for retrieval by another base station. The base station alternatively transmits the coded data as a radio signal, depending upon a hopping sequence.
