Abstract

The invention concerns a method for the manufacture of oil scraper rings for the pistons in internal combustion engines. In accordance with the method, the ring (13) is first produced from cast iron in a mould. The material of the ring (13) is then re-fused on the external ring face (14) intended to serve as a sliding face, the re-fusion being performed along a couple of bands (15, 16) extending around the ring (13), for the purpose of increasing the hardness of the material in the band areas. The ring is then exposed to a lathing operation performed on either side of the bands (15, 16), allowing scraper edges (17, 18) to be formed from said bands. The re-fusion of the bands (15, 16) preferably is performed by means of a laser beam.
