Abstract

The microprocessor control unit (12) is connected by signal lines (36) to devices controlling the fuel system (23), retarder (22) and antilock/antislip braking system (24). It responds to a braking program switch (27) near the driver's left foot, a clutch-pedal switch (30) and sources connected to brake and accelerator pedals (29,31), tachograph, transmission mode selector lever (25), economy/hillclimb mode selector (26) etc. Up- and down-changing points are raised automatically when instantaneous braking power of the retarder exceeds a threshold with either (A) engine speed and retarder outlet coolant temp. below preset maxima, or (B) the retarder set manually for max. braking.
