Abstract
Method comprises treating the pulp and papermaking systems with a polyalkylene oxide/vinyl acetate graft copolymer. Pref. the wt. ratio of polyalkylene oxide:vinyl acetate= 1:0.2-10. A polyalkylene oxide of number average mol. wt. 4,000-50,000 is grafted with vinyl acetate. Pref. is a graft copolymer of mol. wt. 24,000 contg. 3 pts. wt. vinyl acetate per 1 pt. wt. of polyethylene oxide. The vinyl acetate is saponified up to 15%. Polyethylene, polypropylene or polybutylene oxide is used.
