Abstract
The invention relates to lightning arresters. A lightning arrester comprises an elongate insulating case (6) in which a certain number of lightning arrester elements (1), made for example of ZnO, are arranged between two end electrodes (3, 4). A space (11) filled with an electrically insulating substance is formed between the casing and the lightning arrester elements. A fault indication device (13, 15) is actuated by an increase in volume of the aforementioned substance if at least a part of this substance passes into the gaseous state under the action of an arc occurring inside the tube. Application to the protection of high-voltage networks. <IMAGE>
