Abstract

Initially, the carriage (2) is over the surface of sheet (1) and the regulator of distance between instrument (3) and sheet is connected. A signal proportional to the assigned distance passes to a differential amplifier (7). The carriage is moved horizontally along the sheet with an eddy current sensor (4) repeating irregularities of the sheet. During change of distance, the inductance is altered, changing the signal passing from the converting unit (5) to an amplifier (7) forming a discrepancy voltage to control a motor (10) acting through a reducer (11) and a rack (12) to adjust the height of the carriage. - A sensor 4 registers the edge of the sheet and the resonance frequency of the oscillating circuit of the unit (5) falls rapidly, while the amplifier forms an increasing voltage. The motor turns, to reduce the distance from the instrument (3) to the sheet and the carriage si stopped. When the centre of the sensor is over the edge, voltage from the amplifier exceeds a set level and a threshold device (8) is triggered to pass a signal to a control system (13), reversing movement of the carriage.
