Abstract
A movable position station 1 in an aircraft contains a satellite receiver 4 which supplies position data for the station in addition to time signals in UTC time. The time signals control a time base with sufficient accuracy for a large population of stations to have access to well- defined time slots in a radio channel at a VHF or UHF frequency. All members of the population transmit identity and position signals, as a result of which each station can keep track of the positions of the others. A ground station at an airport can, by polling, control the otherwise spontaneous traffic when the aircraft is in its area. <IMAGE>
