Method comprises conveying gas into the granular bed of a continuously operating filter appts.. The bed is continuously distributed along at least one elongate edge. The gas flows round this edge and upwards at an inflow that creates a uniform gas distribution. Also claimed is an appts. for performing the above method, partic. for blowing in air for waste water nitrification.
