Abstract
An arrangement an exhaust system which comprises at least one pipeline 10, coming from an internal combustion engine, for exhaust gases, at least one silencer element 13 positioned downstream of the pipeline, and at least one catalyst unit positioned upstream of said silencer element. Members 20, which react to pressure increases in the exhaust system, are positioned upstream or downstream of the catalyst unit, with the function of reducing the pressure drop in the exhaust system when an exhaust pressure rising above a certain level is sensed. By means of this arrangement, the exhaust system can be optimized both for normal operation and for peak loads. <IMAGE>
