Abstract

The shaping of the underwater object gives it low target strength for electronic searching equipment, such as active hydro-acoustic sonars. The body is limited by surfaces which are so shaped that the incoming sonar waves are as far as possible reflected in directions other than parallel with the incoming waves, and the insides of the surfaces are covered with effective sound-absorbent material. The body has many corners, which are limited by only plane surfaces, and the number of surfaces is the least possible for determining the function of the body as e.g. underwater mine, submarine or other underwater body. Within the interior of the sound-absorbing material lining the insides of the plain surfaces are air channels or gaps.
