Abstract

With the aid of a holder (5) the roller braking system can be applied to printing machines already in service, and to new plant. The system comprises a brake housing (6) in which is a compressed-air operated yoke (8) pressable against a brake caliper (7) which locates against a cover surface of a break roller (11). The caliper locating surface is concave, with the same radius as the break roller. In the housing are springs (9) for the caliper return movement, and suspension components (10) for correcting possible inclined loading. When a break roller is to be cleaned, the braking of the caliper is pulsed to provide shorter or longer periods at rest, pref. so that the break roller cover surface is cleaned in more or less overlapping segments.
