Abstract
A protective device for electrical switchgear and exchanges comprises a transformer 7, the primary side of which is connected to high voltage via a load isolator 2, fuse 3 and earthing switch 4 and the secondary side of which comprises the low voltage side connected to a low-voltage distribution network 12. The low-voltage distribution network is so arranged that in the event of faults 14, 15 in the collecting bar of the switchgear or in the group cable 16, the faulty current automatically cuts out or the fuse in the cable blows within a predetermined time when faulty currents in the secondary side of the transformer are less than a predetermined threshold value. A current transformer 9 is arranged to detect short-circuit currents on the secondary side of the transformer 7 and when these exceed the abovementioned threshold value to cause the load isolator on the high voltage side to open or the earthing switch to close. <IMAGE>
