Abstract

An apparatus for labelling articles, particularly for price-tagging articles of clothing (C), using a data carrier (B) herefor, wherein at least one data carrier is secured to an article by means of a wire-element (A), the apparatus including: an outfeed device (3) which includes a hollow, pointed tube (11) through which a wire-element is discharged; a magazine (4) for storing a bundle of data carriers; transport means (5) for feeding a data carrier from the magazine to the pointed tip of the tube; a drive means (6) for moving the pointed tip through the article and the data carrier prior to discharging a wire-element from the outfeed device, such as to secure the data carrier to said article. The apparatus also includes a protective element (7) which is positioned in front of the pointed tube and which is so constructed and positioned as to prevent the user from coming into contact with the tube but so as to permit a data carrier and part of the article to be inserted between the protective element and the pointed tube. The apparatus also includes a switch (8) which is mounted adjacent the protective element and protected thereby and which is activated by the aforesaid part of the article concerned.
