Abstract

A drill bit, preferably for rotary-percussive drilling, has a bit body (10) including a front face (12), at least one frontal button insert (19) formed of hard metal, at least four gauge button inserts (21) formed of hard metal, a central flushing passage (15) that communicates with at least one flushing sub-passage emerging in said front face (12). At least one frontal button insert (19) has its tip tilted towards the centre of the drill bit. Also the sub-passages for flushing medium emerge in frontal flushing grooves in the front face (12) of the drill bit. Such an arrangement tends to reduce clogging of the flushing passages when drilling in clay or similar types of soil. It also makes it easier, especially in button drill bits having an effective diameter in the range of 40-50mm to arrange a sufficient number of button inserts and flushing passages in the front face of the drill bit. <IMAGE>
