Abstract

Hammer finish coating composition comprise an aqueous dispersion of film forming polymeric material and a hydroxyl endblocked polydiorganosiloxane of the formula HO(R2SiO)nH, where is an integer such that the polydiorganosiloxane has a viscosity of less than 10,000 mm<2>/s at 25 DEG C and R represents a monovalent hydrocarbon group. In preferred compositions the viscosity of the polydiorganosiloxane is 2000 to 5000 mm<2>/s at 25 DEG C, and it provides about 0.1% to 5% by weight of the total solids of the composition. Preferably the polydiorganosiloxane has been introduced to the composition as an additive together with filler and the additive provides less than 2% by weight of the total solids of the composition. In preferred compositions the polymeric film forming material comprises a vinyl acrylic copolymer formed from vinylidene chloride with some vinyl chloride and some acrylic ester.
