Abstract

The mine contains a target-probing and identification sensor which calculates the distance and direction of a target coming into the mine effect area. It can also determine the category of the target by comparison between the data it has collected and those for various types of targets stored in a mini-circuit. Starting from the identification of the target and the calculated distance and direction of it, together with its speed, the sensor selects and initiates a spread pattern for the mine bodies and their detonation sequence which according to the data stored in the mini-circuit is considered to give the greatest possible effect against the target. The spreading function is enacted by a carrier unit, e.g. in the form of a torpedo or similar, which can carry the mine bodies over long distances and then spread them in accordance with the desired pattern.
