Abstract

The card incorporates a magnetic storage system for data, e.g. code number and personal information. Apart from this, it contains a photograph of the card holder or a finger print, accompanied by the full name of the rightful holder. Where such a card is used for payment purposes, a cashier would insert it in an appts. with a reading facility and a printer, e.g. a laser printer. The appts. prints out a receipt which apart from payment details shows a print of the card holder photo and the holder name. This enables the cashier to verify the card holder identity. Similarly, where a pass card is which contains a thumb print of the holder, the card can be used e.g. for opening a door. The holder inserts the card in an appts. by the side of the door and which is provided with a window. The holder taps in his/her personal code on the appts. keyboard, and places his or her thumb on the appts. window. The appts. is able to check that the correct code has been tapped in, and that the thumb print on the window coincides with that stored in the card.
