Abstract

The invention relates to an arrangement for identifying traffic in paired cables. The different layers of traffic are distinguished by different levels and frequency ranges. The arrangement comprises a limiter which is connected to the paired cable and transmits an output signal with essentially constant amplitude and a frequency which corresponds to the strongest frequency component of the input signal. The limiter can be constructed from inverters connected to an amplifier or from an amplifier with a Schmitt trigger. The limiter is connected to a frequency indicator which indicates within which frequency range the strongest frequency component lies. The frequency indicator can consist of monostable rockers or a counter and a decoder. The decoder interprets the output signal of the counter and can be constructed from a fixed gate network or a programmable memory. The output signal of the frequency indicator is connected to an indicator which indicates the frequency range concerned, for example by means of flashing light- emitting diodes. <IMAGE>
