Bicycle pedal, having a pedal axle 1 which forms a fixture 3 for the pedal on a crank arm relative to which the pedal is rotatably mounted. The bicycle pedal has two oppositely facing tread surfaces. Either one of these tread surfaces is facing upwards to form a support for the foot of the cyclist. The other tread surface is facing downwards. That tread surface which for the moment is facing upwards forms a front, upper surface of the pedal and is situated above the pedal axle 1 and extends forwards viewed in the direction of travel of the bicycle. The tread surface passes via a riser into a rear, lower pedal surface, which in the normal position of use of the pedal is located behind the pedal axle.
