Abstract

The invention relates to a continuously operating glass furnace which is divided into a smelting part 1 and a working part 3 by means of two or more vertical partitions 9, 10 so that a neck 2 which connects the smelting part 1 and the working part 3 is constituted by an upwardly open space 8 between the mutually separate partitions 9, 10, from which space there is a flow connection 4 to both the smelting part 1 and the working part 3. The glass furnace according to the invention is characterized in that each partition 9, 10 is supported by means of a support brick 5, 5' which has been positioned below its lower edge, or by means of a number of support bricks 5, 5' positioned with suitable interspaces, away from the bottom of the glass furnace, and in that below each partition 9, 10, between support bricks 5, 5' situated next to one another and/or between the side walls of the glass furnace and the support bricks, there is or are one or more low openings 4 which constitute said flow connection. <IMAGE>
