Abstract

An acceleration sensor (10) has a switching magnet (12) which is held in its basic position by a break-loose magnet (15). As a result, the acceleration sensor (10) has a degressive characteristic curve which means that the switching magnet (12) is not deflected from its basic position until the acceleration threshold is exceeded, and the contacts (18, 19) of a Reed switch (20) can close. After the vehicle impacts, the switching magnet (12) is moved in the same way and the contacts (18, 19) are only closed slightly and for a short time. The acceleration sensor (10) is of simple and cost-effective design. <IMAGE>
