Abstract

In a method for monitoring rollers in a continuous casting plant comprising maintaining a reference member 1 a set spacing 14 from the surface 12 of a roller and tracing the movements of the member 1 required to preserve the spacing and wherein the member 1 is continuously biased towards the surface 12 and a fluid is discharged from a nozzle 11 in member 1 perpendicularly onto the surface to counter the bias and maintain the spacing variations in the pressure of fluid in nozzle 11 correspond to variations in spacing 14 and this pressure is used as a command signal to a control unit which moves the reference member 1 in response to pressure variations. Movement of member 1 is preferably detected by a measuring transducer 23. <IMAGE>
