Abstract

Pptn.-hardening tool steel contains by wt. 0.01-0.1 C, trace to 2% Si, 0.3-3% mn, 1-5% Cr, 0.1-1% Mo, 1-7% Ni, 1-3% Al and/or 1-3% Cu,balance Fe, where 1.5 x % Al + % Cu is not less than 2. Pref. % Mn + % Cr is not less than 3. Where pptn. hardening is effected only by Ni and Al the steel pref. contains 3-7% NL and 1.5-3% Al; where Cu is also a hardening agent the steel pref. contains 2-7% Nl, 1-3% Al and 1-4% Cu, with at least 1-5% each of Cu and Al being esp. prefd.
