Abstract
An electromagnetically-, e.g. optically-, pumped laser device (10) includes a diffuser (28, 29) disposed such that at least a portion of the pumping radiation (from sources 50, 52) passes therethrough before impinging upon the lasing medium (12). The diffuser (28, 29) may comprise optical glass having portions adapted to diffuse the radiation, these portions having been roughened by chemical etching, chemical frosting or mechanical abrasion. <IMAGE>
