Abstract

Light with a strength which is less than a predetermined level (LO) and daylight or other continually or slowly varying light are filtered from the input by an HPF (8). An activation circuit (3) is coupled to the discriminator (2) to operate the light source. The discriminator circuit emits a logic signal indicating whether the monitored light will activate the light source or not. The activation circuit (3) includes an oscillator (12) which in conjunction with the logic signal causes a trigger circuit (14) to emit a sequence of trigger pulses. The light source comprises a gas discharge lamp (10) connected to a power source via a charging circuit provided with a capacitor (5), and on receipt of the trigger pulses emits a corresp. sequence of light flashes. The outputs of the oscillator (12) and discriminator circuit (2) are connected to a logic circuit (13) in the activation circuit, the logic circuit comprising an AND grid (13).
