Abstract

Escalator comprising an elevator section 1 with stair section 2 attached to it, where the elevator section 1 incorporates an elevator platform 4 which can be raised and lowered between at least two levels 28, 30. The stair section 2 is connected to the elevator section 1 in such a way that the stair section 2 automatically follows the movements of the elevator section 1 so that the stair section 2, in its lowered position, forms a flat surface on which goods can be transferred onto the elevator platform 4, while in its raised position it forms a normal staircase. The elevator is designed with an interlock system covering lowering- and access-prevention locks 34-47, to ensure that platform 4 will not drop from its upper position until an access-block 35 device is actuated, and that the lowering lock will automatically secure platform 4 in its upper position as soon as the access lock is released. <IMAGE>
