Abstract

Controls are provided for the torque-independent couplings (28,30,31) so that in a primary tightening stage all the couplings are connected, and all the outgoing shafts are connected to the drive motor. In a final tightening stage, the couplings are connected one at a time, with the shafts connected likewise one at a time to the motor. The controls comprise a drive shaft (26) connected torque monitor, providing signals either in relation to the total exerted torque to all of the outgoing shafts during the primary tightening stage, or relating to the torque transmitted to each shaft during the final tightening stage. Each coupling comprises an axially displaceable casing (28) located and coaxially arranged in relation to the outgoing shafts, and a pressure medium-driven changeover spring unit (38) incorporating a single-acting piston and cylinder arrangement moves the coupling casing between uncoupled and coupled positions.
