Abstract
A process for the selective preparation of essentially non-cyclic polyalkylenepolyamine compounds is described. In this process, an alkyleneamine compound is reacted with a hydroxy compound and optionally ammonia or an alkyleneamine in the presence of a catalytically active amount of an acidic crystalline aluminium silicate at a temperature of about 175 DEG C to 400 DEG C under a pressure which is sufficient to keep a substantial amount of the charge material and in particular ammonia in the reaction zone. The polyalkylenepolyamine formed is recovered from the reaction mixture. Polyethylenepolyamines, for example diethylenetriamine and tetraethylenetetramine, are representative compounds.
