Abstract

A process is described for reducing the corrosion such as pitting corrosion of lead anodes used in the electrolytic extraction of copper from sulphuric-acid copper-containing electrolytes. In order to reduce corrosion and avoid warping of the anodes, the electrolyte is admixed with iron ions in an amount of from 0.5 to 10, preferably from 3 to 8, g/l. An electrolyte having a chlorine ion content of from 50 to 300, preferably from 150 to 200, mg/l is employed. According to a further refinement of the invention, a lead anode having a content of from 1 to 5%, preferably from 2 to 4%, of antimony is used.
