Abstract

In a 32 channel PCM system, a number of terminals (TO-T31) are connected to corresp. network terminals (NTO-NT31) which in turn are connected to a common multiplexer 8FMX) via 2k bit/s -channels. From the multiplexer, the data is transmitted to a packet mediation node (PH) on a common high speed channel (CH) for the terminals at a speed of 64 k bit/s. The function of the frame multiplexer (FMX) involves frames in the form of data words beng received from subscribers, verified, and checked in respect of bit faults. If a bit fault is detected, the frame is rejected. A marker word is added to each signal word frame for transmission to the packet mediation node. The marking identifies the terminal from which the frame is sent. The multiplexer incorporates a separate buffer memory for each of terminals, the outputs of which are connected to a scanner the output of which is connected to a common channel (CH) for all terminals, which in turn is connected to the packet mediation node (PH).
