Abstract

An air knife coater, in which coating substance is applied onto a running web and is subsequently treated by an air knife device. The application zone is short enough in the longitudinal direction of the web, and it is situated so close to the air knife device, that the web when running at normal coating speed leaves the application zone and reaches the air knife device in a time of at the most 5 milliseconds, preferably at the most 3 milliseconds. The web enters into the application zone and reaches the air knife device in a time of at the most 15 milliseconds, preferably at the most 9 milliseconds.
