Abstract

The cutting inserts (13) are fastened to the cutting lobes (2) of the rotary drill and consist of a carbide base plate (31) and a carbide insert piece (32) provided with a diamond coating (39). The insert piece (32) is let into a recess (33; 34, 35) of the base plate (31). The diamond coating covers a part (25') of the rake face (25) of the cutting insert (13) and extends up to the left-hand side edge (40), up to the outer main cutting edge (16) and up to a part (17') of the inner main cutting edge (17). The rake angle ( gamma ) of the diamond-coated insert piece (32) is negative, and the rake angle of the base plate (31) is neutral to positive. <IMAGE>
