Abstract

A multiple hydrocyclone apparatus for separating a liquid containing fine solid particles into two or more fractions according to particle size distribution comprises a closed cylindrical housing (1) partitioned into a top reception chamber (13), a feed chamber (11), a bottom reception chamber (14), and possibly one or more intermediate reception chambers (12), by partition plates, (8, 9, 10). In the feed chamber (11), raw liquid supplied thereto is fed to a plurality of hydrocyclones (40) disposed on concentric circles, For three-liquid separation, each of the hydrocyclones is provided on its top with a double cylindrical member arrangement (50) consisting of coaxial outer and inner cylindrical members extending at one end into the respective hydrocyclone and forming double vortex finders. A middle outflow is discharged through an opening in the wall of the outer cylindrical member and a top outflow through the inner cylindrical member. The latter is provided on its outer surface near its one end with projections which contact the inner surface of the outer cylindrical member so as to prevent said inner cylindrical member from being vibrated by the vortex of the raw liquid, thus increasing the accuracy of classification. <IMAGE>
