Abstract

The invention relates to a device for detecting shorted turns in rotors of collector machines. In spite of careful fabrication, there is always a risk that shorted turns occur in the rotor. It is therefore the object of the invention to create a protection for the motor mentioned initially, which detects the shorted turns in the rotor during operation and switches off the motor as quickly as possible. The device according to the invention for detecting shorted turns in rotors of collector machines is characterised by the fact that a sensing probe arranged close to the collector is provided in the machine housing, which probe detects the variable magnetic fields of the rotor, occurring in the individual windings due to the short- circuit current in the event of shorted turns, during its rotation. This invention makes it possible for the first time immediately to detect shorted turns in the rotor so that no greater damage occurs in the rotor. Shorted turns generate a short-circuit within the rotor winding so that, in addition to the normal current, the short-circuit current also flows through one or several turns.
