Abstract

The invention in question concerns an automated method of folding a band (8), for ex. a self-adhesive tape, along and around the edge (6) of an object (1), and pressing fast the band (8) against the object's opposite side surface along its edge (6). The edge can be, for example, an open double edge (6, 7) on a "corrugated-cardboard wrap" (1), which is to be sealed and contains a product (3), which is to be wrapped. The double edge (6, 7) is conveyed between two retention cylinders (11, 12) and then introduced to a self-adhesive tape (8), which stands against a supporting ruler (13), and is held taut between a tape roll (19) and a holder (18) on a drive unit (16) positioned at the side of the layer-wrap (1) and the ruler (13). When the double edge (6, 7) is attached to the tape (8), the ruler (13) descends, the holder (18) releases its grip on the tape (8) and the drive unit (16) moves to the layer-wrap's (1) opposite edge and a knife(17) on the drive-unit (16) cuts the tape at that point. The double edge (6, 7) is then conveyed, in between two spring loaded press cylinders (14, 15), which fold the tape (8) around and along the double edge (6, 7) and press fast its edges at the layer-wrap's (1) side surfaces (4, 5) along the double edge (6, 7); where after the layer wrap (1), which is now closed along said double edge (6, 7), is withdrawn from the sealing machine.Building products, and the like, in the form of sheets, can in the same way be equipped with protective and/or reinforcing bands (1) along their edges (6).<IMAGE>
