Abstract
The invention concerns an internal combustion engine of the piston type where combustion gases are exposed to elements of ceramic material.A model shows, respectively, a piston and a metal holder (4), within which a ceramic lining (5) is packed. The holder is designed so that cavities (14, 15) form between it and the surrounding parts of the piston. The cavities are filled with ceramic wadding. Air pockets (16, 17), furthermore, are arranged between the holder and the ceramic lining. The model gives long and short heat conduction paths through the metal parts and a high temperature on the holder's surfaces, which are in contact with the lining, thereby leading to low tensile stress on the lining.<IMAGE>
