Abstract

The method is for handling samples in the continuous determn. of concentrations of one or more transient organic bodies in fluid or fluid suspension. The bodies are continually diluted either with fluid at the liq. phase before the gas phase is removed or by a gas dilution. Also, a combination of both methods can be used to dilute the bodies to concentrations where a subsequent quantitative analysis of the bodies in the gas phase using a gas detector reflects the concentrations in the fluid in which they were originally. - Sampling involves the organic bodies being diffused from the fluid through a gas-permeable membrane to a flow with inert gas flowing on the other side of the membrane. The gas carries the bodies to a mixing chamber where they are gas-diluted to a concentration where their contact with a gas-sensitive detector produces a signal proportional to that concentration.
