Abstract
A self-cleaning drum (1) for a centrifugal separator is provided with a hydraulically actuated, axially movable slide valve (2) and a control valve (7) for the control of the slide valve. The control of the slide valve is such that a trouble-free function is maintained during opening of the drum for discharge of solid substances. For this purpose the slide valve (2) is provided with an intermediate chamber (3) connected by inlet channels (4) to a closing chamber (5) and by an outlet channel (6) to the control valve (7), the volume of the intermediate chamber being determined by the quantity of fluid required for balancing of the forces arising in a separating space (8) and the closing chamber (5). The intermediate chamber (3) is disposed at the outer circumference of the slide valve (2) and the inlet channels (4) are so arranged relative to the closing chamber (5) that the fluid is fed into the intermediate chamber at a smaller radial spacing from the drum axis than a point of departure of the fluid from the intermediate chamber by way of the outlet channel (6).
