Abstract

The invention refers to a gearbox (10) for vehicles comprised of an ingoing axle (4) and a concentric main axle (15), which makes up the outgoing axle of the gearbox. On the ingoing axle (14) two pinions (24, 26) are fixed that each intervene with a lateral gear wheel (29, 30) on a lateral axle (19). The lateral gear wheels (29, 30) are both rotationally housed and through a coupling can separately be alternatively coupled with the lateral axle (19). The main axle (15) supports a number of shift gear wheels (43, 44, 45) that intervene with a corresponding number of other lateral gear wheels (40, 41, 42) on the lateral axle (19) in order to create different gear transmission ratios.The invention is distinguished by the shift gear wheel (45) that has the position closest to the ingoing axle (14) being rotatorily housed and that between the shift gear wheel (45) and the ingoing axle (14) exists a coupling (46) through which the main axle (15) can be alternately coupled with the ingoing axle (14) or the shift gear wheel (45).The gearbox also includes a rear axle (21) arranged so that the same gear wheels (40-45) on the lateral axle (19) and the main axle (15) can be used for forward and backward driving. The invention enables also the release of many gear wheels even in a direct gear position, whereby the friction losses of the gearbox can be held at a low level.<IMAGE>
