Abstract

The plastics pipe union has a spigot (10) with a passage (11) containing a sealing ring (15). A movable support ring (19) compresses the sealing ring, while a grip ring (20) secures the plastics pipe (12) inserted in the passage and is moved by a nut (21). - The grip ring has a closed annular portion (29) and a spring portion (30) towards the inner end of the passage, of truncated cone section. The sealing ring fits against a step (24) in the passage wall, and is compressed by the grip ring acting via the support ring. The latter is first pressed against the step, after which its edge (28) bearing against the spring portion of the grip ring compresses the grip ring. This forces the grip ring edge (31) into the plastics pipe surface, holding it securely.(2)
