Abstract

The protective arrangement is for a series condenser battery (C1-C5) in a high voltage mains (L), and comprises a voltage-dependent resistance (R1) in parallel with the condenser, a triggered spark gap (G1,G2) parallel to the resistance and shunting it when overload occurs, and an energy absorption detector (CU) which to prevent resistance overload produces a trigger signal for the spark gap. - A pulse transformer (TR) produces the high voltage trigger pulses, and the low voltage side of the transformers is in series with a normally open coupling component (T1,T2) connected to a unit (C5) in the condenser battery (C1-C5). The signal from the detector for triggering the spark gap is fed to the coupling component to close it. A sensor (IT)probes the current through the resistance, and provides a signal (i) to the energy absorption detector corresponding to the current, dependent upon wictwhich the detector provides a spark gap trigger signal.
