Abstract

Opening arrangements for packaging that is manufactured from flexible material and intended for pressurised contents, such as beer, sometimes have the form of a tear-off strip that is sealed to the wall of the container and covers a pourage opening that has been punched in this wall. In order to withstand the high internal pressure that arises from the contents, the seal between the tear- off strip and the container material must be strong, which has a detrimental effect on the ease of opening of the package. By ensuring that the mutual bonding between the different layers 10, 11, 12 of the package laminate is weaker than the seal between the tear-off strip 5 and the outer layer 10 of the material of the container, an easily opened package 1 is obtained, despite the seal between the tear-off strip and the laminate of the package having a strength such that the risk of leakage or unintentional opening is small. By sealing the tear-off strip in a zone 6 that extends around the pourage opening 4 and that is located at a certain distance from the pourage opening itself, and by providing the pourage opening with a "built-in" pourage lip 13, the properties of the opening arrangement are further improved without increasing the risk of leakage or the difficulty of handling the package. <IMAGE>
